Review – Bayleaf Cafe

At the suggestion of friends and as part of a large party we headed over for a late Friday dinner at Bayleaf where they had just started a 3 day marathon of 24 hour service. (They now serve 24 hours Friday through Sunday!) Hopefully this catches on with the after bar crowd!

Anyway, I was intrigued by the Asian/Southern items on the menu. Everything from cheesey grits to bulgogi. They even have Chicken and Waffles!!! I had the catfish with Grits and Collard Greens and it was all delicious and well prepared. My wife had the Chicken fried Chicken.

Overall it was pretty good. Service was great and the decor was very minimal and had a slight modern twist to it. That modern twist was a little odd for the diner fare and food and didn’t quite fit with the mismatched dinnerware and mason jar water glasses.

I wanted to try the deserts, but we were full. I will have to go back!

After the meal my friend and stayed inside and chatted it up with the owner/chef for a while. The conversation was lively and learned that his wife is Asian and he is from the South. Does that explain the menu? It should. They are doing this for the love of comfort food and they have it down.

I will be back. I loved it!
