The Park Cafe – The finest greasy spoon breakfast in the city.
Rating:

Five out of Five stars, you ask? For a greasy spoon? Of course! I would have it no other way and for what it is, I feel it is the best in the city. Is it culinary excellence? That depends on what you call culinary excellence. It is culinary excellence for what it is…
I have been dining at The Park Cafe for years. I started three owners ago and back in the day it wasn’t very good. In fact, they tried too hard. Then along came the latest owners, descendants of the previous owner of Over the Counter Cafe. So Greasy Spoon is in their blood and they know how to take simple ingredients like eggs, bacon and toast and turn it into something you will crave on many a Sunday morning.
90% of the time I order the Double Play. It comes with 2 eggs, 3 strips of extremely thick bacon and the house potatoes. Home Fries grilled with mushrooms and onions and served slightly crispy and a delight with catsup. On the side comes your choice of toast, but I always get a slice of the thick and heavenly french toast. You can also request one the fluffiest pancakes I have ever been served in SLC.
Kids are welcome here and the restaurant is usually full of young, hip, urbanites on the single side of life and nursing a hangover, or the same, just newly married with 1 or 2 kids. But don’t think they are only type you will come across here. The age range runs the gamut and the staff knows almost everyone by name. Yeah, we are all regulars! For good reason.
So, breakfast isn’t the end of the road here. They are open until 2 and lunch is also served. I have only been for lunch twice and both times it was a-ok, but they do breakfast best. The bacon cheeseburger is pretty good though. I love that Park Bacon!
When you are through, walk off that giant breakfast across the street at Liberty Park.
