So today I got an email from my wife with a link to information about Salt Lake’s very own, new, Asian inspired Taco Truck. My plans to go home for lunch ended and my quest to track down the Chow Truck began. You see, these meal-on-wheels operations have become a huge trend in So-Cal and I have been dying for a chance to try one out myself. Love the idea of a Korean taco!
First, I popped over to Chowtruck.com t0 read up a bit on the menu and track them down to today’s location and then I jumped on Twitter and quickly friended @chowtruck. I want to keep track of these guys after-all. I hadn’t even tried them and I was pretty sure I would be back. Hoping they wouldn’t disappoint. Well, they didn’t!
Today the location was Trolley Square. Right out in front and just off of 7th East. You couldn’t miss the bright orange and yellow truck. The line was short (won’t be once people find out about this place) and I was 2nd. WOO! I had already decided from the online menu that I was going to start out my experience with the Asian Spice Root Chips ($2.50) and the Flash Fried Calamari with Fried Lemon Slices ($5.00). The root chips blew away anything similar that I have ever tried. I think it was the slices full of holes with the intriguing taste. I have no idea what they were. The Calamari was tender, perfectly fried and shared the container with fried parsley leaves and thinly sliced lemon that was also battered and fried. Now, many of you may be afraid of the fired lemon, but you must try it. It was tangy and delicious, peel and all!
Now I didn’t try the tacos today, but the ones I saw looked amazing and I now have a reason to go back an I am looking forward to the next time I can track down the Chow Truck! Maybe I will bring a friend. Take my advice and don’t wait too long to try these guys, once word gets out you will spend a lot of time in long lines. It’s THAT good!!!
