Review – Thai Lotus, Salt Lake City, UT
I have found my new favorite Thai Restaurant in Salt Lake City! This restaurant recently opened across the street from the Leonardo at Library Square. It is located in the former digs of Boondocks Philipino.
While my wife had been here for lunch I had not tried it yet, so at her suggestion we headed here instead of to Thai Siam. I was not disappointed. This restaurant has not been discovered by the local crowd yet and it has not been reviewed by the City Weekly yet, so the crowd was small.
We were greeted at the door and promptly shown our way to our table and presented with the colorful menu’s full of selections you do not see at your typical SLC Thai Place. We decided to try two salads with me having the Crispy Fired Catfish Salad and my wife trying the Shrimp Salad. Both were excellent with the perfect blend of sweet and savory and textures like you have never had before in Thai Food. It was not a one note dish by any means.
We followed this with a desert of Mango and Sticky Rice with Coconut Custard and again I was pleasantly surprised at how they got the sweet savory and texture mix just right. It was wonderful.
Give this place a try! You will be pleased. I like to think that this is the first “authentic Thai” I have ever tried, but I have never been to Thailand, so what would I know????
